Decolonize Academia: Community Connect Members Meeting
April 5 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
‘How can I get more involved?’ We heard you and we listened!
Join Amsterdam United’s First Community Connect Members Meeting. Community Connect is a project built by students, for students. We aim to create a larger community that fosters a deeper sense of belonging for all students at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). We welcome students and alumni joining to share their lived experiences and changes they wish to see at the UvA.
Until June, we will be hosting a monthly meeting to create a safe space for students from all backgrounds to share their ideas in collaborative discussions surrounding a centralized theme. The theme for this first meeting will be focused on decolonizing academia. We are confident that creating a more inclusive environment at the UvA begins through confronting and challenging historical and contemporary colonial practices in academia. To this aim, we invite students to join the meeting and share their perspective on the topic in the context of the UvA.
Our evening will begin with a fun activity to introduce ourselves. Then, the floor will be opened for anyone to share their lived experiences, concerns, and ideas surrounding the concept of decolonizing academia. This will be followed with a speed-friending activity to connect with each other over shared interests and experiences. Lastly, the meeting will end with a collaborative discussion on the goals and visions for our future member meetings.
We will also share information on how you can join the 2022-2023 Amsterdam United’s Board. We hope to see you there! Did we mention, there will be Pizza?Vegan/vegetarian options will be available! We are looking forward to connecting with you all at the upcoming meeting.
